PDO values our children. Psalm 127:3 says, “Children are a gift from God.” That verse is our daily guide.
PDO values parents’ peace of mind, and we honor that by providing a loving and safe environment where they can leave their children
PDO values our staff by ensuring them work that brings them purpose and joy.
PDO values the Church by reinforcing biblical principles in our daily work.

The Chapel of the Cross Parents’ Day Out & Preschool (PDO) is designed to be a safe place for children to learn and grow through play and age appropriate lessons. PDO provides parents with flexibility to choose to enroll their child from one to four days per week. PDO is a ministry of The Chapel of the Cross and is licensed by the Mississippi State Department of Health. PDO is a member of the National Association of Episcopal Schools (NAES). Our curriculum meets NAES recommendations as well as the Mississippi Early Learning Standards for 3 & 4 year olds.
Curriculum/Program of Activities
PDO is designed to promote intellectual, social, emotional, physical and spiritual development of children ages 6 weeks to 4 years old. This is accomplished by teacher directed activities, free play, music, art, and hands on experiences.
We use a theme-based unit curriculum, for example: holidays, seasons, animals, etc. Academic concepts related to the alphabet and numbers are presented through activities, stories, art and individualized opportunities. Our children’s spiritual enrichment is guided by the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd curriculum, which invites children to explore and deepen their relationship with the Good Shepherd using Montessori principles.
Scheduled enrichment programs include:
Monday: Stretch N Grow (toddler and preschooler physical education)
Tuesday: Music Class
Monday/Wednesday: Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for 2k, 3k, and 4k
Every other Thursday: Soccer Shots (2k and 3k, during the academic year only)
Each month parents will receive a calendar that will assist them in knowing our units, special occasions, closings, menus, and other information for the month.

What our parents have to say about PDO:
“I love everyone at Chapel of the Cross! My son gets so excited when I get him out of the car because he knows he’s about the spend a few hours with his friends and his adorable teachers! His teachers take the best care of him so I never have to worry about him from the time I drop him off until the time I pick him up. I also love that there is a daily report sent home every single day. It is incredibly helpful and fun to see what they enjoyed doing that day!” – Laurel Donahoo, Yellow Room Mom
“Chapel of the Cross Parents’ Day Out has been such a blessing for us. Not only do they provide a safe environment for learning early social skills, but they also provide engaging activities that encourage thinking and exploration. They make some pretty cute crafts to hang around my house too! The entire staff is so kind and caring as if each child is their own. I cannot imagine taking my baby girl anywhere else.” – Amanda Raborn, Yellow Room Mom
“We enrolled in PDO at Chapel of the Cross for convenience – we had no idea we were going to become part of a community. The staff there really partners with us in helping my children grow. Not only have my boys made friends, but I’ve made “mom” friends. I am so glad Chapel of the Cross was the “convenient” choice. – Mary Helen Abel, Blue Room Mom
“My son started just before he turned 2 years old and has loved it from day 1. His teachers always have fun activities planned and the curriculum is a perfect mix of active learning and playtime. He is gaining valuable social skills as well as having fun! We love COTC PDO! – Megan Washington, Blue Room Mom
“Chapel of the Cross PDO is one of our greatest blessings! The staff are all wonderful and welcoming to my son each day. It’s a comfort to know I’m leaving him in the hands of others who love him as their own.” – Lauren Wicker, Red Room Mom
“We love Chapel of the Cross PDO! My twin girls have been going since they were 2 years old and they are now 3. The staff is so loving, caring and nurturing. I highly recommend this wonderful program to all parents in the Madison area.” – Rebecca Haas, Former Green Room Mom
“My 3 year old loved COTC PDO! He learned to love others, sit and complete a craft and most of all, learned about Jesus’ love for him! He flourished in the small, close knit classroom setting and as a mom, I knew he was loved on and taken care of. We both made sweet friends and lots of memories!” – Anne Jernigan, Former Green Room Mom
