Lamentations of the Betrayed
Rebecca Ezell Harrison
Psalm 55:22 “ Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”
Psalm 55 represents the lament of one who was wronged. The betrayal by a friend, just as Jesus was betrayed by Judas. Can any of us even begin to imagine a betrayal of that type or the burden he bore?
Although we may never experience a betrayal of this depth; at some point in our lives we have felt a betrayal or have been wronged by a friend. But it is not ours to take retribution for the hurt and anger we feel. Give to the Lord the injustice, he will not turn from those who seek his path and share his love. He will comfort us who turn to him during these times of betrayal. At that moment during our feelings of anger and hurt, it might seem we are lost. Our faith may be tested, but we will not be neglected. Let God right the wrongdoing. Trust in him that we shall find peace.
Prayer for Today — Today, I ask that the peace and love of God find me and fill my heart with mercy to those who I have felt a betrayal. I ask for vision and kindness to show me the way that I shalt not betray or wrong another of God’s children. Forgive me for my past wrongs and let me look forward in the hope this Holy Week brings that I too shall remember to turn to you and your son in my times of need.
