On Sunday, 29 January, at 10 a.m. in the Parish Hall, the parish will gather for our Annual Meeting. On that day, there will be one worship service, at 10 a.m. in the Parish Hall, with Holy Eucharist, reports from the Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Treasurer, and Rector, Vestry elections, and a potluck lunch.
In the Chapel of the Cross, at the corner of Mannsdale and Gluckstadt Roads, in the center of Madison County, I was suddenly overwhelmed with the realization that I loved all those people, that they were mine and I theirs, that we could not be alien to one another even though we were total strangers.
In 1976 I was 14 years old, wishing I had a driver’s license. For several years, my friends and I had been big into riding our bicycles all over the place. One of our routes would take us from the Belhaven/Millsaps area up North State Street to Madison county where we would meander around to HWY 463 and north until we got to this spooky old church.
A few years ago, Ellen and I visited Edinburgh, Scotland to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Edinburgh is an enchanting city filled with historic architecture, striking vistas, and rich tradition. Moreover, the place is quite whimsical, as evidenced by the Fringe Festival and the one night Ellen and I had haggis nachos for supper (darn tasty, too).
We have completed week one of our Feasibility Study and I am so thankful for all the folks who have participated, the positive energy and good questions shared, and for Tell Flowers, Becky Herren, Brian Martin, and Reggie Sims who have facilitated our discussions.
