Our Mission
The Chapel of the Cross Preschool is a family ministry of Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church.
Our Preschool is designed to be a safe, nurturing and enriching space that provides children with high quality care including low teacher-child ratios, structured play and developmentally appropriate activities.
The Preschool is licensed by the Mississippi State Department of Health, Child Care Facilities Licensure Division. This license is renewed annually after on-site inspections. The Preschool is also a member of the National Association of Episcopal Schools with staff members completing the required Episcopal training, “Safeguarding God’s Children”.
Our Curriculum
Curriculum is designed to promote cognitive, physical, social, emotional and spiritual growth. It is based on a holistic design and rooted in sound child developmental principles.
Toddlers and young two year old children are provided with books, age appropriate toys, opportunities to climb, and music and art experiences in a large classroom. Toys are cleaned daily.
Our young preschool classroom is designed in simple learning centers (library corner, home-living center, manipulative table, art center and block center). Children are allowed to choose the center in which they want to spend time within the structured classroom. Teachers plan art, math and science activities based on a theme or unit topic for that week, i.e. insects, community helpers, summer, etc.
Children spend time outside each day.
Our older preschool classroom is also designed in learning centers, with an additional focus on reading and math readiness skills needed for kindergarten.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is the Episcopal curriculum used for children’s spiritual development. Our trained staff catechist invites children to explore and deepen their relationship with the Good Shepherd. The program is provided in the church atrium classroom and includes Christian themes, values, prayers, and music.
