Children's Ministries

At Chapel of the Cross, we use the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, a beautiful and intentional curriculum that provides religious education and spiritual formation for children ages 3 through 12. Catechesis is rooted in the Bible, the liturgy of the church, and the educational principles of Maria Montessori. Children gather in atriums, divided by age, on the ground floor of the Education Building and work with prepared materials to learn about God and strengthen their spiritual relationships, all facilitated by highly-trained Catechists (a.k.a. teachers).  Our Catechesis atriums are joyful places filled with activity, singing, discussion, and prayer, and we invite interested parents to stop by any time. Sunday School begins at 9:30 am.

The Chapel of the Cross offers a Nursery for infants and toddlers in the Education Building each Sunday from 8:30 to noon.

We have a dedicated space for Children's Church in the buidling next to the Chapel of the Resurrection. Children's Church is for ages 3 - 6 and takes place during the 10:30 service each Sunday. During the opening hymn, Mrs. Erica, our Director of Children's Ministries, leads the children to Children's Church down the center aisle following the children's processional cross. During Children’s Church, we have a brief sermon and activity based on that Sunday's scripture readings. The children sit on the floor in the chancel during the eucharistic prayer so they have a front row seat to see what is happening. After the eucharistic prayer, the children return to the pews.

On Wednesday nights, we have Chapel Children’s Choir from 6:00 to 6:45 pm.

Throughout the year, we host special events for our children and their families. Some of these events include an Advent wreath-making workshop, a Nativity Pageant, a re-enactment of the Last Supper during Lent, Vacation Bible School, a daddy-daughter dance, and Trunk-or-Treat in October.
